My time as a high school teacher taught me how to instantly connect with teens and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. I love photographing high school seniors all over the Greater Des Moines Metro and Midwest (yes, I’m willing to travel).

Hi, I'm Carrie

They were friends in Norwalk High School’s band and while they weren’t wholeheartedly “band geeks”, they truly enjoyed the friendships they made and the directors they had. Kelsi sat in the clarinet section when she wasn’t in color guard for marching or cheerleading and Andrew was a saxophone player when he wasn’t on the soccer field. Friends at the time, college separated them for a time, and post college, they bumped into each other again. This time, they were wholeheartedly interested in each other.

Andrew is now a teacher and soccer coach at their alma mater in the math department, and Kelsi is putting her law degree from Drake to good use. And I couldn’t have been more pleased with our results for their engagement session last week. The weather cooperated, which in Iowa means we weren’t dripping in sweat. Instead, the sun gave us gorgeous drops of light as it set on our time together. It was especially fun to bring their fur-baby, Kingsley, along for a portion of their session-he behaved and obeyed so well!!

Andrew’s mom was our assistant with Kingsley and once we’d gotten some shots with him, they headed home and we fully focused on Andrew + Kelsi on the grounds of the Art Center and its Greenwood Park

A quick outfit change and we headed downtown for a great view of the skyline:

It was around this point that I asked Kelsi if she had any other ideas before we hit one last spot and she so politely asked for a silhouette shot. When I said, “Absolutely!” I could see we’d hit our second wind of excitement for photos and we ended on such a strong note. 🙂

Kelsi + Andrew: I had such a blast photographing the two of you! Your wedding is going to be absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to see what you two dream up for next March. It thrills me to hear that Andrew enjoyed his time in front of the camera too. 🙂 I’m so glad to have the opportunity to get to know you better and be a small part of your wedding plans.

Blessings in the planning process!

Carrie
