My time as a high school teacher taught me how to instantly connect with teens and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. I love photographing high school seniors all over the Greater Des Moines Metro and Midwest (yes, I’m willing to travel).

Hi, I'm Carrie

I will never forget one of the band lessons I had with Diamond when she was a 7th grader. We were drilling clarinet high register fingerings and it was a conversation that hearkened back to Abbott & Castello’s “Who’s On First” skit. If my tiny office had been large enough, I would’ve been rolling on the floor laughing. She had me in stitches!! It was a genuine moment where I felt like I saw a light-hearted, authentic Diamond.

Fast forward to two weeks ago, when Diamond’s mom contacted me for her senior session: I was floored. A lot has happened in Diamond’s life since 7th grade and I was honored that Carol would trust me with this moment in their lives. Here are the start of our results from our time together:

I had certain expectations for how this shoot would go and I knew lighting would be challenging at the time of day our session was. But things that I thought would be challenging weren’t and that allowed me to focus on the challenges that popped up. Shooting on a beach close to noon is known to be difficult, but we mitigated it with a reflector to act as a source of shade (thanks, Carol, for being my assistant!). And Diamond rocked each pose I offered her:

Oh, the pups! Juno is such a sweet little poser!

Quick outfit change and I love that we were able to incorporate the beautiful fall colors even when Iowa got some snow this past week. (Phew!) I’m also super thankful that Diamond brought a basketball and her softball glove to highlight the sports she’s participated in.

Diamond: Please know that there are people who are praying for you and your future! I wish you nothing but success and all the best that life can offer you. Thank you for letting me in to your world a little bit on this day and for giving me those smiles & the laughter (complete with the scrunched nose!) that I remember from 7th grade.

Put your nose to the grindstone (as my Mama used to say)-you can do this!
Blessings,

Carrie
