Here we go! The Senior Class of 2023 season is upon us and we kicked it off with Parker. I have photographed Parker since he was in the single digits. Maybe 8 years old? Maybe 9? Either way, it’s close to a decade, he used to be shorter than me, and now, we live on the same street as his family since moving in 2018. We are so thankful to have their family nearby and have really enjoyed where we live!
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: I love photographing seniors because I learn something new every time we go out on a shoot and we figure out how to photograph it. I’ve mainly encountered Parker in the music setting, so to see him on the soccer field was my “something new”. I also have to give a shout out to all the coaches who have let our seniors keep their uniforms longer than the season would normally dictate, let us know when the facilities will be available and in general, have been wonderful to communicate & work with. It truly takes a team for a session to get off the ground!
We went from the Norwalk stadium to the downtown Judicial Building with a view of Des Moines’ skyline and the gold of what I call the Starburst Sculpture correlated beautifully with his tenor sax. We also played with the silver wall of the Science Center to bring out the silver in his bow-tie. Who says guys don’t have style and coordination? Not anyone here!
I’ve been using Grey’s Lake more often this season and have loved the gentler light towards the end of sessions. Parker has a really cool opportunity before him this summer to apprentice with a carpenter to learn a trade and I’m excited for him to put his hands to work in a craft like this. SO many good things to learn are before him!
Parker & Family : Thank you so much for your support of this small business of mine for So. Many. Years. It’s been such a joy to hang with your family and my camera, watching your kids grow up. I am always inspired by the laughter and FUN you guys have together. Thank you for who you are and who you are in our lives!
