I last photographed this crew two and a half years ago when little Miss Ava was just six months old. Now her baby brother is six months old, so it was the perfect time to get everyone together again!
Dawn — the matriarch of this incredible family — was our children’s kindergarten teacher. We adore her and still count it such a blessing to know her. Dawn and Steve are perfectly matched partners, and together they raised three amazing kids: Logan, Emma, and Hannah.
Hannah and Derek now have their own beautiful little family with Ava and Isaac. Emma is a pediatric oncology nurse with the kindest heart and is currently dating Tucker. And Logan? He’s working on marketing himself as “the FUNcle” for any dating app he might join. Ladies, take note — you’d be marrying into a truly wonderful family!
We started their session at Des Moines Waterworks Park, taking full advantage of the morning light around the bubble lamps and tree-lined paths. The area was fenced off from a concert the night before, so we turned it into an adventure — walking along the sidewalks and laughing our way to the bridge that leads toward Gray’s Lake Park.
Did they not NAIL IT with outfits!? We then had some fun with the sidewalk, overpass and just Nana & Papa with their girl.
It’s always a joy to spend time with this family. Sessions like this one feel less like work and more like hanging out with friends… with a side dish of photos.
Dawn + Steve: Thank you so much for having me out again! It’s so fun to see everyone and watch your darling grandchildren grow. SO proud of “Aunt Emma’s” half marathon run, too!! Wowzer.
