My time as a high school teacher taught me how to instantly connect with teens and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. I love photographing high school seniors all over the Greater Des Moines Metro and Midwest (yes, I’m willing to travel).

Hi, I'm Carrie

As I continue to photograph these seniors, I keep mentally pinching myself that these used to be “my babies” back in 6th grade band! Sam worked his way from alto sax to bari quite quickly and hasn’t looked back since. In fact, when he brought his alto out, it almost seemed foreign to me since he’s been with a bari for so long! It was a dreary day when we had our session together, but it gave us such freedom to go anywhere we wanted!

We hit one spot near Norwalk and then headed to Walnut Woods Park.

I love that every time I go to Walnut Woods, there’s something different because of storms or fallen trees that change the landscape in a fun and photographically friendly way. 🙂 By his short-sleeves, you would guess it was roughly 40 degrees out, would ‘ya?

It’s so exciting to photograph these seniors at such a crossroads in their lives. Trying to navigate what they’re going to do after high school and making big-time decisions can be scary but also exhilarating as they look for a fresh start in a new locale. Sam is thinking of heading to a warmer climate to study computer programming and I couldn’t be prouder of his accomplishments in the meantime!

Both Gerard + I have had the pleasure of teaching Sam (the “All Mashed Up” shirt is from high school show choir ‘Sound Revolution’) and it’s always intriguing to see how each of these seniors use their talents to better the world around us. I know Sam will make a positive contribution and be successful wherever he decides to go.

Best of luck Sam! We are so proud of you!
