My time as a high school teacher taught me how to instantly connect with teens and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. I love photographing high school seniors all over the Greater Des Moines Metro and Midwest (yes, I’m willing to travel).

Hi, I'm Carrie

The organist started the most routine of pieces for the wedding processional as the bridal party started to take their turns down the aisle towards the front of the church. Every couple phrases or so, she’d ramp up the stops, open the swell pedal a little more, turning up the volume. As the doors opened for Emily & her dad to walk down the aisle, the organist really let loose, so much so that Pachelbel’s Canon in D actually made me teary. To watch Emily approach her future husband to this majestic rendering of the most routine of pieces made the most routine of actions-walking-incredibly touching and dare I say, triumphant?

After photographing over 40 weddings, ceremonies can start to feel routine or very similar in nature, but Emily & Lucas’ service hit the nail on the proverbial head in so many ways. Not just the music, but most importantly the pastor’s message of Marriage being not a partnership of 50-50 or even 100-100, but it’s 100-0. On this day, Emily and Lucas were pledging to the other to continue to give 100% of themselves regardless if the other gave anything at all. It was this message that made their wedding ceremony anything but routine.

Emily & Lucas’ day continued to be an incredibly accurate reflection of the two of them-from the music choices, to the favors on the reception tables of their favorite recipes (Lucas being the Foodie that he is), to their Grand Entrance singing ‘Love is An Open Door’ (throwing back to Emily’s lovely singing abilities). I couldn’t have been prouder of them for the day they put together to celebrate their love, nor more honored to photograph it for them.

Their ceremony had these two cuties involved and seamlessly went into one of the best wedding messages I’ve heard to date. Marriage is truly 100%-0% folks, truly.

Emily & Lucas: You two are such a beautiful couple and I’m truly honored that you asked me to photograph your special day! I pray God’s blessings on your marriage, your plans for the future and good health for the rest of your school year (Emily!)!!! I’m in your corner and rooting for you and for any 100-0 days you may have ahead.

Love,

Carrie
